Madison Rose Holtze is a lyric-coloratura soprano based in Minnesota. Holtze has sung a variety of roles, including Little Red Riding Hood (Little Red Riding Hood Touring Production, Opera on the James;) Suor Genevieffa (Suor Angelica, Opera on the James;) Mabel (Pirates of Penzance, Madison Savoyards;) Zina (Dark Sisters, Journey North Opera;) Serpina (La Serva Padrona, Mill City Opera) Cinderella (Cendrillon, English, Lyric Opera of the North) Eurydice (Orphée aux enfers, University of Minnesota;) and Alicia (The House on Mango Street, Chautauqua Opera.) She is also an active member of the Minnesota Opera Chorus.
Madison has been praised for her precise agility and warm tone, along with both her heartfelt sincerity and comedic timing. She has a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance and studied with Dr. Zaro-Mullins at the University of Minnesota.
In 2024, Holtze was invited to participate in both the winter and fall sessions of the Tyler Young Artist Residency Program with Opera on the James in Virginia. She also appeared in the chorus of MN Opera's La Bohème in May.
In 2023, Holtze won the St. Croix Opera competition and placed 2nd in the Arlington Philharmonic Competition in Massachusetts. She was a semi-finalist for the Camille Coloratura Competition (October 2023) and sang the role of Zina in Minnesota's premiere production of Dark Sisters.
Holtze was invited to the Chautauqua Conservatory for the Summer of 2022. While there, she sang the roles of Frantik, Grasshopper, Jay and Chorus in Leoš Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen. She received lessons and coachings with artists such as Marlena Malas, Rhoslyn Jones, Jonathan Beyer, Claudia Catania, Kanae Motsumoto and Donna Gill. She also was asked to sing the roles of Alicia, Tree 1 and Chorus with the Chautauqua Opera Company in their new opera workshop of The House On Mango Street.
Holtze participated in the Classical Singing in New York summer program in 2021 with faculty such as Jane Olian, Donna Gill, Marlena Malas and Margo Garrett. She has sung professionally with Lyric Opera of the North and Mill City Summer Opera. She also attended the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg and worked with Dr. John Thomasson in 2019.
During her tenure at the University of Minnesota, Holtze won the Minnesota NATS competition 4 times - once for musical theatre, and three times for classical singing. She won the Schubert Club competition and Thursday Musical competition. She also won the Voices of Vienna scholarship competition and received the Judd Fellowship to attend the Mozarteum.
She has been involved in over 35 productions in her lifetime.
Holtze began her musical journey at the age of 4 on the piano. She switched to the violin at age 7, and still actively plays and teaches. She was also an award-winning French Hornist in high school and continued playing in college.
Beyond performance, Holtze maintains a busy schedule by teaching 18 voice and violin students, teaching ESL online, singing for jazz and contemporary worship gigs and releasing music collaborations online.
